ICC approved hybrid Champions Trophy model, but Pakistan will not visit India in 2026.
International Cricket Council (ICC) has authorized a hybrid model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will enable matches to be played in both Pakistan and Dubai.
INTRO
- India's Champions Trophy matches will take place in Dubai, as agreed upon by the BCCI and PCB.
- India will host the 2026 T20 World Cup without Pakistan.
- Pakistan will not receive payment for the portion hosting rights it lost.
A hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 has been accepted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), with the PCB and BCCI agreeing to hold matches in Pakistan and Dubai. In addition, both boards have agreed that Pakistan would not go to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup league-stage match against India; instead, it will take place in Colombo for the match.
The PCB has obtained the right to organize an ICC Women's tournament after 2027, even though they will not be paid for this agreement. All parties involved have embraced the deal, which addresses logistical and geopolitical issues while guaranteeing seamless planning for these major events.
The Champions Trophy hybrid concept is approved by the ICC following an agreement between the PCB and BCCI. The three locations for the matches in Pakistan and India will be in Dubai. The PCB and BCCI have reached a theoretical agreement that Pakistan will not visit India for the 2026 T20 World Cup match. Sri Lanka is the co-hosting nation and will host the match.
PCB will not receive any compensation for losing the chance to host India's matches. After 2027, PCB will receive the opportunity to host an ICC women's event in exchange. ICC, BCCI, and PCB are all pleased with the development.
In 2025, Pakistan will host ten Champions Trophy matches under the auspices of the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board). All three of India's league games, including the much awaited matchup with Pakistan, will take place in Dubai, though. It is also planned that Dubai will host the tournament's semifinal and final. Pakistan's Lahore and Rawalpindi would host the semifinal and final if India is ousted after the league round.
India would not travel to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which would be co-hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the BCCI, if they refused to travel to Pakistan for the ICC tournament, the PCB had previously demanded. The PCB suggested using Colombo for their games. A later date will determine the locations for the 2027 T20 World Cup semifinal and final.
Eight teams will compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be split into two groups and run from February 19 to March 9. Each group's top two teams will move on to the semifinals and then the championship game. The strategy employed when Pakistan hosted the Men's 50-over Asia Cup last year is similar to this hybrid hosting style. Colombo hosted India's matches, including the semifinal and championship game.
