Multiple complaints have been filed against Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra for holding an objectionable poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Keya Ghosh, a BJP leader from Bengal, has also lodged a complaint against her and strongly condemned the incident.
The actress is accused of participating in a student protest in Kolkata on Friday. Images of her holding a crude poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral that same day.
After filing the complaint, BJP leader Keya Ghosh said, "I have lodged a complaint at the Anandpur police station against actress Sreelekha for displaying a vile poster targeting the respected Prime Minister under the guise of a student protest. We have demanded her immediate arrest. This hooliganism—carried out in the name of a student protest—involved attacks on journalists; even a female journalist was not spared and was molested. Here, this Leftist actress is displaying a poster against the Prime Minister that is so vile and obscene—so offensive—that I cannot even show it here."
Actress Clarifies: "I Wasn't Wearing My Glasses"
Following the filing of complaints, the actress issued a clarification on Sunday. According to *The Telegraph India*, she said, "I have heard that several complaints have been lodged against me. I want to clarify that the protest was extremely crowded—so much so that I couldn't even look closely at the posters. Most women don't pay attention to the lower body area of a man. I saw a caricature of Modi *ji* where he had his arms outstretched; I found it amusing. I didn't notice anything else."
She added, "Someone else had made those posters. I simply saw one of them and had a photo taken with it. If they want to arrest me for this, let them. They can even hang me if they wish. And if that happens, I am certain there will be another massive protest against it. The government should be prepared for that."
Apart from the complaint in Anandpur, a complaint has also been filed against Sreelekha Mitra with the Bidhannagar Cyber Police. A case has been registered at the Anandpur Police Station
(Case No. 302, dated July 26, 2026) under Sections 352, 353(2), and 356(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Harassment complaint filed against Malayali filmmaker
Earlier, Bengali actress Sreelekha made headlines for filing a complaint of sexual harassment against Malayali director Ranjith. Following the release of the Hema Committee report, the actress alleged in her complaint that in 2009, Ranjith had invited her to his home under the pretext of offering her a film role and subsequently harassed her.
