Matt Damon plays the Greek hero in the trailer, while Tom Holland plays Telemachus and Anne Hathaway plays Penelope.
Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's Odyssey has its first trailer available online.
"After years of war... no one could stand between my men... and home... not even me," says Matt Damon's gravelly voiceover in the trailer, which features a series of shots of a bearded Damon as he sets out to return from the fall of Troy.
As Odysseus fights storms and other challenges on his return to Ithaca, the trailer also offers fleeting glimpses of Tom Holland as his son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Odysseus's wife Penelope.

The trailer comes just after a six-minute clip was shown in theatres on December 12. Prior to that, a movie trailer was released in July but was leaked online. Following Nolan's admission that he used two million feet of film on Imax cameras to make the film, the recently released trailer seems to be significantly different. The Odyssey is scheduled to be released in Australia on July 16, 2026, and in the US and UK on July 17.
The first teaser for Christopher Nolan's eagerly awaited adaptation of Homer's fabled saga, "The Odyssey," has been released by Universal.
The movie follows Matt Damon's portrayal of the Greek hero Odysseus as he makes the arduous journey home following the Trojan War. In February, Universal published a first-look image of Damon dressed in costume. Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, and more costar with Damon. Together with his wife, Emma Thomas, Nolan wrote the screenplay and produced the movie in addition to directing it.

In the teaser, Odysseus and his army are shown getting shipwrecked and making their perilous return home. In addition, he and his soldiers can be seen inside the notorious Trojan horse, which was previously hinted at in a six-minute clip shown prior to Imax 70mm screenings of "Sinners" and "One Battle After Another." Odysseus travels by land, by sea, and through caverns, one of which is home to a menacingly large beast that lurks in the shadows. Additionally, there are brief glimpses of Hathaway as Odysseus' wife Penelope and Holland as his son Telemachus.

In December of last year, Universal announced that the movie would be "shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology." At CinemaCon, Universal executive Jim Orr hinted that viewers might anticipate "a visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of."
Leguizamo likened Nolan's work ethic to that of an independent filmmaker. During a recent appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," the actor stated, "He's not doing it by committee, he's not doing it by what the studio says."
