Australia announces squad for the Champions Trophy 2025; Jake Fraser-McGurk Misses Out
Champions Trophy 2025: Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are part of Australia's 15-man Champions Trophy preliminary squad. Hazlewood is currently recovering from a calf injury, while Cummins played through an ankle injury during the Test series against India. Teams, however, have until February 12 to make adjustments.

Australia announced their 15-man Champions Trophy 2025 team, which is captained by Pat Cummins. Despite not being on the Test tour to Sri Lanka, Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Marsh have been added to the preliminary squad. Although Marsh is experiencing a slump in form, he is anticipated to be a mainstay in the ODI team. Josh Hazlewood was sidelined for a month due to a calf strain sustained during the Brisbane Test, while Cummins played through an ankle injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
While Jake Fraser-McGurk, who hasn't been able to contribute to the national setup thus far, was overlooked as Matt Short and Aaron Hardie received their first ICC event call-ups for Australia, Sean Abbott is the only notable absence from the squad that participated in the ODI World Cup in India in 2023 and most recently in the series against Pakistan.

Abbott is expected to join Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood, and Nathan Ellis in the pace-bowling department, with all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Hardie providing support, should Cummins be unable to make it.

"This is a balanced and experienced squad with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year's successful tour of the UK and the more recent Pakistan home series," George Bailey, the chief selector, said.
"It offers a variety of options for touring management depending on opposition and the conditions that may present in Pakistan."
David Warner will be replaced at the top by Short and Travis Head, while Alex Carey or Josh Inglis will be the wicketkeeper. Two of Marnus Labuschagne, Stoinis, and Hardie will be in the starting lineup in place of Cameron Green, with Glenn Maxwell serving as the third all-round player.
