Microsoft is finally making it simple to install Windows updates.

The most recent version of Windows 11 24H2 offers "reduced installation time, restart time, and central processing unit (CPU) usage for Windows monthly updates," according to Steve DiAcetis, Principal Program Manager Lead at Microsoft, who made this announcement on the Microsoft Tech Community.

  • The Windows Fundamentals wing's Steve DiAcetis has disclosed how Windows 11 24H2 installs updates more quickly.
  • Numerous tests verified that Windows 11 24H2 lowers CPU use by 15.3% and restart time by 39.7%.
  • Updates were also installed 43.6% faster and with 25% less CPU use on a PC that hadn't been updated in a long time.

Let's face it: installing Windows updates is a laborious process that we repeatedly put off till it starts up. The main cause is that Windows updates still take a very long time to install, even in 2024. That will soon change, though, as Microsoft appears to have heeded our request with the release of the Windows 11 24H2 update.

He provides test results to support these assertions. They began by making minor adjustments to a "well-maintained device" that was running Windows 11 22H2 (Build 22621.3155) and updating it to the patch for the next month. They then contrasted it with a Windows 11 24H2 system.

The results showed that the installation time was 45.6% faster after installing the update, as well as the restart time was 39.7% faster. In addition, the CPU usage time also decreased by 15.3%. However, the tests do not end here.

They upgrade a PC that hasn't been updated in 18 months in order to compare the test findings, further broadening the testing grounds. Now, this Windows 11 24H2 computer was 43.6% faster at installing updates, with a 25% lower CPU use and a 33.5% faster startup time.

The article also shows how the servicing stacks of Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 are comparable. These findings therefore roughly reflect how these two versions would stack up against the enhanced 24H2's update installation capabilities.

Steve further explains that regular feature upgrades have been reduced in size by about 200 MB. While other apps like Mail, Calendar, and Notepad must be updated through the Microsoft Store, this has been accomplished by incorporating system apps like Settings and File Explorer within the Windows monthly update.

Well, I am very happy that I don't have to wait for many days to update and restart my Windows 11 laptop. However, only time will tell if it is as good as the test results suggest. What do you think? Write your thoughts in the comments below!
