IPL 2024: Jadeja impresses as CSK defeats PBKS to end a losing trend and restore playoff hopes.
IPL 2024, PBKS vs CSK: Ravindra Jadeja hit 43 from 26 balls and picked up 3 wickets in 4 overs in a relatively low-scoring affair in Dharamsala as the Super Kings returned to winning ways. The defending champions revived their chances of reaching the playoffs alive after their 6th win in 11 games this season.
INTRO
- With the victory in Dharamsala, CSK ended PBKS's five-match losing skid.
- CSK climbed back up to the top 4 in the IPL 2024 standings.
- Ravindra Jadeja's performance to win the match featured a 26-ball 43 and three wickets claimed.
In a crucial IPL 2024 match against Punjab on Sunday, May 5, the bowlers for the Super Kings came to the rescue of the reigning champions. They managed to score 167 runs in 20 overs despite a poor batting display that was too excellent for the Sam Curran-led team, who were only able to muster 139 for 9 runs. The disciplined Super Kings won by 28 runs with to a standout performance by Ravindra Jadeja with the bat and with the ball from players like Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh, and Mitchell Santner.
The two left-arm spinners for the Super Kings, Mitchell Santner and Ravindra Jadeja, combined to take 4 wickets in seven overs, giving just thirty runs. It was a classic example of the team's spin choke in the middle overs. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala's choice to start Santner in the XI on a dry surface paid off, as CSK's spinners performed admirably for the first time this season. As a matter of fact, CSK's third spinner, Moeen Ali, was not required on Sunday.
Prior to the T20 World Cup, Ravindra Jadeja, an all-rounder for India, seemed like he was getting back to his previous level of play. He scored 43 runs off of 26 balls and claimed 3 wickets. Good news for CSK, who will be without their top wicket-takers Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana for the rest of the season, was also brought about by Jadeja's all-around performance.

With the victory at Dharamsala, CSK also ended PBKS's five-match losing skid. Notably, on May 1, Punjab defeated 163 in just 17.5 overs to secure a commanding victory in Chennai.
Point Pable
In the IPL 2024 points standings, CSK also moved up two spots to No. 3, revitalizing their chances of making the playoffs. With one fewer game played than fourth-place Lucknow, the Super Kings lead the team with two more points after winning six of their first eleven games of the season.
SPIN TO WIN FOR CSK
Ruturah Gaikwad, the captain, led the team admirably despite losing the toss for the tenth time in eleven games. His rallying cry came after the team scored a low total. The deployment of Mitchell Santner in the powerplay proved to be a wise move, as the highly skilled spinner from New Zealand prevented Impact Player Prabhsimran Singh and PBKS opener Jonny Bairstow from getting off to a fast start. As Tushar Deshpande dismissed Bairstow and the highly effective Rilee Rossouw in his opening over, the pressure paid off for them.
With the in-form Shashank Singh on the pitch, Santner ended the critical 53-run partnership between him and Prabhsimran Singh, who was about to go off the deep end. Santner caused Shashank to make a false shot in the eighth over, resulting in a 20-ball 27.
With 6 wickets lost for just 28 runs, PBKS collapsed from 62 for 2 to 90 for 8, following Shashank Singh's departure.
After dismissing dangerous Prabhsimran Singh, captain Sam Curran, and dangerous finisher Ashutosh Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja found his form with the ball. Jadeja took three wickets and conceded just 20 runs in his allotted four overs, demonstrating his magnanimous side.
In his first encounter of the season, fast bowler Simarjeet Singh delivered some fiery bowls in the middle overs. The teenage pacer removed Harshal Patel, who could have scored some significant lower-order runs, after taking the key wicket of wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma for zero.
Excellent ball-handler Rahul Chahar contributed 10 from 16 balls as Harpreet Brar tossed his bat around towards the conclusion. It was insufficient, though, as CSK refused to back down on Sunday in order to apply pressure and secure a vital victory in Dharamsala.
THE REGULAR BATTING SHOW OF CSK
When MS Dhoni was out for a golden duck earlier in the day, the Super Kings prevailed thanks to some helpful contributions from players like Jadeja, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Daryl Mitchell. After Shardul Thakur was questioned, Dhoni chose to bat at No. 9, which helped CSK fall to 122 for 6 in the powerplay despite having scored 60 runs in the powerplay.
