Rain caused the Indian Premier League game between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on Saturday to be cancelled. Just after the first over of the chase, with KKR at 7/0 in response to Punjab Kings' total of 201/4 in 20 overs, the interruption occurred. The ground is completely covered.

The KKR batsmen at the crease when play was halted by rain were Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1 not out) and Sunil Narine (4 not out). Before the rain gods revealed themselves, there was a very strong dust storm.

The wind was so strong that even the groundskeepers had to sit on the covers to keep them from blowing away. This is the second game since the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs. Punjab Kings match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was postponed on April 18 because of rain.

Kolkata rain weather forecast for April 26

Parts of Kolkata are under a red alert for lightning, according to Accuweather.com. Heavy rain is expected to persist until approximately 12:30 AM on Sunday, April 27. Since there are no reserve days for league matches, the game is likely to be abandoned if it goes on this way.

What happens if KKR vs PBKS gets washed out

Both teams will split the point since it was a washout. With 11 points, Punjab Kings move up to fourth place. With seven points, KKR is still in seventh place.

Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh star for Punjab Kings

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya had earlier shared a 120-run opening-wicket stand and smashed fifties as Punjab Kings amassed a formidable 201/4. As the KKR bowlers struggled until the 12th over, Arya scored 69 off 35 balls and Prabhsimran scored 83 off 49 balls.

KKR's wicket-takers were Andre Russell (1/27), Varun Chakravarthy (1/39) and Vaibhav Arora (2/34). Previously, PBKS replaced Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett with Glenn Maxwell and Azmatullah Omarzai.

Additionally, KKR substituted Rovman Powell and Chetan Sakariya for Moeen Ali and Ramandeep Singh.
