Following his unsaleable performance in the IPL 2024 auction, RR signed Maharaj to fill in for the injured Prasidh Krishna. His recent form with the South Africa national team and his captaincy with the SA20's Super Giants in Durban put him in the spotlight ahead of the current season.

Maharaj has shown to be one of RR's reliable spin options since making his debut on April 10 against GT. He has taken two wickets in his first two outings for the team and has a good economy rate. Maharaj recently responded to a few questions that focused on his experiences with RR during the current IPL season in a video that was posted on the official IPL website.

Maharaj conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity to play in RR and for sharing the pitch with players such as Ashwin and Chahal.
