Several veteran cricket players who were unlucky or didn't receive many opportunities in international cricket are now the talk of the IPL because of their impressive performances. Dinesh Karthik is one such unfortunate veteran who is taking center stage in the IPL 2024 with his batting.
Karthik was a complete batsman and wicketkeeper when he made his international cricket debut. He showed his abilities, but regrettably, he was not as fortunate as others and was not given many chances to reach his full potential. He is one of the most important players for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2024 Indian Premier League, where he is captained by Faf du Plessis. Cricket fans praised him even if his spectacular innings did not help Sunrisers Hyderabad win a game.
When it comes to his IPL career, Dinesh Karthik first appeared for the Delhi Daredevils in 2008. His purchase price was 2.10 crores. He was a member of the team until 2010 at the same cost. He paid 4.14 crores to join Punjab Kings in 2011. He was traded to the Mumbai Indians in 2012 and played for them in 2013 for the same salary.
When Dinesh Karthik rejoined the Delhi Daredevils in 2014, he was paid the most he had ever been paid in his career. Karthik received a salary of Rs. 12.50 crores for that season. At a cost of 10.50 crores, Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him in 2015. He signed a one-year contract for 2.30 crores with the Gujarat Lions in 2016 and continued to play for them for an additional season.
Dinesh Karthik was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, and during that season, he received a salary of 7.40 crores. KKR agreed to keep him through 2021 at the same cost. Karthik was once more purchased by RCB in 2022, who paid him a salary of 5.50 crores and kept him for the following season at the same cost. He was signed by RCB once more for the 2024 IPL at the same cost.
Interestingly, Dinesh Karthik's compensation has decreased by 127.27% this season compared to the highest IPL salary of 12.50 crores.
