NPCI issued a statement regarding UPI down, told the reason for the outage
The unexpected outage of UPI services occurred on Wednesday night. Throughout the nation, thousands of users of GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, and Bhim UPI encountered issues making payments online. After a while, UPI services resumed operation. The cause of the outage was tweeted by NPCI.

There will be an unexpected outage of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) on March 26 at approximately 7 p.m. Users of the GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, and Bhim apps encountered numerous issues following the outage of UPI. Customers of HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Kotak Mahindra Bank encountered numerous issues with online payments as a result of the UPI outage.

Thousands of people nationwide were unable to send or receive money because UPI was unavailable. But now that UPI has been fully fixed, all services are operating normally.
Due to this outage, which lasted for about one and a half hours, users using different applications faced many problems. After this, NPCI tweeted and informed about the restoration of UPI services. NPCI also released an official statement regarding the reason for the outage.
NPCI had faced intermittent technical issues owing to which UPI had partial decline. The same has been addressed now and the system has stabilised. Regret the inconvenience.

NPCI posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the outage was due to technical problems. NPCI said that all the technical problems have now been completely resolved and now users can use UPI.
According to DownDetector, the problem with UPI started by 7:50 pm. Within a short time, thousands of complaints were registered on the website regarding the outage. At present, no response has been given by NPCI regarding the UPI outage.
