Mumbai attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana is now in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan will lead the prosecution in the court on behalf of the NIA in the Tahawwur Hussain Rana case. Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, who previously led the extradition proceedings against 26/11 co-conspirator David Coleman Headley, will now lead the NIA's prosecution team in building a strong case against Tahawwur Rana. Late Thursday night, terrorist Rana was extradited to India.
Senior lawyer Narendra Mann also with Daya Krishnan
According to the Times of India report, Krishnan will be assisted by a team that includes experienced criminal lawyer and special prosecutor Narendra Mann, who has previously represented the CBI in the Delhi High Court. The report also revealed that Krishnan played a key role in the extradition case against Rana.
Krishnan has been associated with the NIA since the beginning of the extradition
His team presented solid evidence before the US judiciary. The US court dismissed all of terrorist Rana's appeals as a result. Dayan Krishnan has been connected to the NIA since the start of the extradition procedure in 2019–20. He and his team also traveled to the US with the NIA to present India's case.
Krishnan played an important role in investigating Rana's crime horoscope
An NIA official said that senior lawyer Krishnan's role has been important in collecting and investigating Tahawwur Rana's crime horoscope. With the help of Krishnan, it can be shown in the court that the allegations which India is investigating are different from the prosecutions already going on in America.
Fought the case on behalf of Delhi Police in Nirbhaya case
Krishnan has long been known for handling sensitive and high-profile cases. He was named special public prosecutor by the Delhi Police in 2012 for the gang rape and murder case in Nirbhaya. He had voluntarily led the prosecution. Reflecting on his role at the time, he said, 'After the crime, I felt I had a duty towards society. I will definitely not make money while discharging my duty towards society.'
Krishnan helped NIA in David Headley case
Daya Krishnan played a key role in the extradition case of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks conspirator David Coleman Headley. He has been a special prosecutor for the NIA and was involved in the extradition process of Headley as well as now Tahawwur Rana. David Headley, whose real name is Dawood Gilani, is a Pakistani-American terrorist working for Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to media reports, Headley is currently jailed in the US, where he is serving a 35-year sentence for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Legal career of nearly 30 years
