Over allegations of sexual harassment against the WFI chief, the Delhi Police file FIRs.
In response to allegations of sexual harassment made against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by a number of female wrestlers, the Delhi Police filed two FIRs.
The Delhi Police on Friday enrolled a FIR over lewd behavior charges evened out by a few ladies grapplers against Wrestling Organization of India (WFI) boss Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
According to the Delhi Police, two FIRs have been filed at the Connaught Place police station. The first involves allegations made by a minor victim that have been recorded under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code regarding outrage of modesty, among other things.
The purpose of the second FIR is to conduct in-depth investigations into the complaints made by other adult complainants under relevant sections pertaining to outraging of modesty.
This comes after India's top grapplers, for example, Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik strengthened their dissent against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and declared that they won't leave the dissent site at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the WFI president is captured.
Seven female wrestlers had also filed a petition with the Supreme Court, claiming that their allegations of sexual harassment against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had not been registered. The Supreme Court had issued notices to the Delhi government and others in response to the plea, stating that these were "serious allegations" that required its consideration.
On Friday, Specialist General Tushar Mehta, showing up for the Delhi Police, told a seat of Boss Equity D Y Chandrachud and Equity P S Narasimha that the FIR with regards to this issue will be enlisted today itself.
"We have chosen to enlist a FIR. Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court bench that it would be registered today.
