Highlights
- The starting price of the Tata Nexon iCNG is Rs 8.99 lakh.
- The most expensive model costs Rs 14.59 lakh.
- The car is equipped with twin-cylinder technology.
The Nexon iCNG was introduced by Tata Motors today, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 8.99 lakh. The Tata Nexon iCNG, India's first turbocharged CNG passenger vehicle (PV), is a rival to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG.
The Tata Nexon is now offered in petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric versions with the introduction of the iCNG version. In June of this year, the Tata Nexon, which was first introduced in India in 2017, surpassed the 700,000 unit sales milestone.
The Tata Nexon outsold SUVs like the Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India over the last three fiscal years, selling 1,71,697, 1,72,139, and 1,24,130 units in FY24, FY23, and FY22, respectively.
With its 1.2-liter turbo bi-fuel (petrol and CNG) engine, the Tata Nexon iCNG can produce up to 100 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. There is only a manual gearbox available at this time. Nevertheless, an automatic option may be added to the car in the future.
Direct start in CNG mode and a single ECU that allows for automatic fuel and CNG switching are features of the SUV. The car is said to have a 60-liter CNG tank and a 24 km/kg mileage rating.
Newly Launched
Tata Motors, the top producer of electric vehicles in India, is enhancing its environmental credentials with the introduction of the Nexon CNG. The Nexon CNG receives a few unofficial awards, as is customary for Tata. It is India's first turbocharged CNG car, the country's first car with four fuel options simultaneously, and possibly more.
There are eight trim levels to select from, with prices starting at Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-sh). Creative, Creative+, Pure, Pure S, Smart (O), Smart+, Smart+ S, and Fearless+ S are these. Ex-sh, the top-spec Nexon CNG Fearless+ S costs Rs 14.59 lakh.
The 1.2L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers this first turbocharged CNG vehicle in India will be powered by Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology. This gasoline-powered turbocharged engine produces 118 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. Performance is a bit muted with CNG, producing 170 Nm and 99 bhp.
Since it will be the first turbo-petrol-CNG vehicle in the nation, a broader range of consumers will find it appealing as it offers a respectable combination of turbo performance and the low operating costs typically associated with CNG vehicles.
Tata's twin-cylinder i-CNG setup, which is better than single-cylinder units, helps to free up usable boot space by placing two 30L cylinders beneath the boot floor. Because of its sophisticated ECU and automatic fuel switch, it can start directly in CNG mode. When a gas leak occurs, the iCNG technology transitions from burning natural gas to using petrol. A microswitch to turn off the ignition is another safety feature of the Tata Nexon.
Exteriors and Interiors
The Nexon CNG's design is identical to that of its petrol- and diesel-powered siblings, with the exception of the i-CNG badge on the boot lid. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, a two-spoke steering wheel, keyless entry, and other features will remain in the interior.
The Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) recently awarded the Tata Nexon EV a 5-star safety rating. The CNG version will also have six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, ABS, and EBD. It will also feature an electronic stability program, auto-dimming IRVMs, a rear defogger, and Isofix child seat mounts.
In the same price range, it will compete with CNG versions of the Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, as well as other sub-4m SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG.
