Pakistan also out of the World Cup, now three teams are vying for one spot, the semi-final equation has become interesting.
Pakistani team suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa. Pakistan became the second team to be eliminated from the World Cup, following Bangladesh's earlier defeat.
Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 have been completely dashed. Pakistan lost to South Africa by 150 runs under the DLS method in a match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday, October 21st.
In the rain-affected match, Pakistan were required to score 234 runs in 20 overs, but could only manage 83 runs for seven wickets. South Africa, after losing the toss and batting first, scored 312 runs for nine wickets in 40 overs.
With this victory, South Africa reached the top of the points table. Australia, England, and South Africa have already reached the semi-finals of the Women's Cricket World Cup. Pakistan and Bangladesh have been eliminated from the race for the final four. Now, the race for the fourth and final spot is between India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.

Let's talk about the Indian team first. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is currently fourth in the points table with four points. Team India has played five matches and has a net run rate of +0.526. India now has matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
Defeating New Zealand will give you a ticket to the semi-finals
If India defeats New Zealand, it will advance to the semifinals with six points. India will be the only team among the three semifinalists to have won three matches. However, if India loses to New Zealand and defeats Bangladesh, it will have to hope that England defeats New Zealand to reach the top four. If India loses both of its remaining matches, its journey will end there.
New Zealand has 4 points from five matches and a net run rate of -0.245. New Zealand is ranked fifth. If New Zealand wins both of its matches (vs. India and England), it will advance to the semi-finals with 8 points. If New Zealand defeats India but loses to England, it will have to hope that Bangladesh defeats India, has a better net run rate than Sri Lanka, or that Pakistan defeats Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is ranked sixth with 4 points from six matches. Sri Lanka's net run rate is -1.035. Sri Lanka has only one match left, against Pakistan. Even a win against Pakistan will not be enough for Sri Lanka. It will have to hope that India loses both of its matches (vs. New Zealand and Bangladesh), while New Zealand loses to England, and that Sri Lanka has a better net run rate than New Zealand.
Ranking rules for a tie (Women's World Cup)
- The team with the most wins will lead the points table.
- If wins are tied, net run rate will be considered.
- If there is still a tie, the result of the match will be considered.
- If all else remains tied, the teams' league stage seeding will be used to determine the standings.
