On March 12, the trailer debuted at the Academy Awards, with Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy introducing it. McCarthy plays the evil Ursula, and Bailey plays Ariel.
The film stars Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Jonah Hauer-King in co-starring roles. It was directed by Rob Marshall. The story of a mermaid who longs to join the human world is told in the movie, which features four new songs and updated versions of the original music.
