Ram Mandir Surya Tilak Ceremony 2025: Date, Time, How To Watch Special Ceremony

Surya Tilak Ceremony 2025: Thousands of people swarm to the Ram Mandir to worship Lord Vishnu's seventh incarnation as the holy city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh gets decked out for Ram Navami, which commemorates the birth of Lord Ram. The Surya Tilak ceremony, a spiritual experience commemorating the birth of the Hindu god, is one of the day's main highlights.

Indian scientists created the Surya Tilak ceremony, a once-yearly spiritual event in which a unique mirror and lens-based device are used to make sure that a tilak-like ray of sunlight lands squarely on the idol's forehead.

The Surya Tilak mechanism was created by a group of scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, so that sunlight falls on Lord Ram's idol's forehead for approximately six minutes every year on Ram Navami day at 12 pm.

Notably, a gearbox and reflective mirrors and lenses have been placed so that, by following the well-known rules of tracking the Sun's path, sunrays from the third floor close to the shikara will be redirected to the Garbha Griha (sanctum sanctorum).

Dr. Pradeep Chauhan, a CBRI scientist who contributed to the Ram temple's design, told NDTV that "the Surya Tilak will anoint the forehead of the idol of Ram Lalla 100% of the time."

Although they are designed differently, some Jain temples and the Sun Temple at Konark already have a similar Surya Tilak mechanism.

Surya Tilak ceremony timings
