Lok Sabha polls: PM Modi to speak at third public gathering in Kongu region; increased security
10 April , Mr. Modi is expected to speak at a public gathering close to Mettupalayam in support of the BJP's local candidates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in his third public engagement in the Kongu district on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, close to Mettupalayam in Coimbatore, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, raising the bar for the BJP's candidates in Tamil Nadu.
Union Minister L. Murugan, the BJP's nominee for the Nilgiris seat, K. Annamalai, the president of the Tamil Nadu branch, A.P. Muruganandam, the candidate from Tiruppur, K. Vasantha Rajan, and other candidates will all be campaigned for by Mr. Modi.
On February 27, Mr. Modi had his first public gathering in the Kongu region at Palladam, coinciding with the conclusion of Mr. Annamalai's En Mann, En Makkal padayatra. On March 19, he had his second public meeting in Salem.
In addition to these two public gatherings, on March 18 he conducted a roadshow in Coimbatore and paid respects to the people who perished in the Coimbatore serial explosions of 1998.
On Wednesday at 1.10 p.m., Mr. Modi is scheduled to arrive at Coimbatore International Airport aboard an IAF aircraft departing from Arakkonam. At 1.35 p.m., an IAF helicopter will drop him off at a helipad close to Mettupalayam. He will arrive at the location by vehicle at 1.45 p.m.
Mr. Modi is expected to speak to a group of people from 1.45 to 2.35 p.m. At 3:15 p.m., following the meeting, he will fly from Coimbatore airport to Nagpur.
Increased security
For security, over 4,000 police officers will be stationed at the location, near the helipad, and beside the road. On Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10, the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police have banned the use of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) inside their jurisdiction.
Similarly, in and around the civil aerodrome, Hope College, Sitra, Chinniyampalayam, Neelambur, Neru Nagar, Kalapatti, Vilankurichi, Saravanampatti, SIHS Colony, Venkitapuram, Irugur, A.G. Pudur, Neelikonampalayam, and Singanallur, as well as other locations where their operations have already been restricted, the Coimbatore City Police have forbade the use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These locations have been placed under a 72-hour "red zone," which ends at 10 p.m. on April 11.
