KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS 2024: Indian History of Kargil Vijay Diwas
The Kargil war started with the war between India and Pakistan in 1971. After this war, East Pakistan emerged as an independent country which was called Bangladesh. This fight between the two countries did not end here. The fight between the two countries continued to establish their rights on the Siachen Glacier. Due to which this enmity between the two countries continued further. To put an end to this enmity peacefully, an agreement named "Lahore Declaration" was signed between the two countries in February 1999, which was signed by both the countries.
But despite this, in defiance of the agreement, Pakistani soldiers and terrorists infiltrated and captured India's Line of Control (LoC) in northern Kargil of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian soldiers came to know about this infiltration in May 1999, after which the Indian Army launched Operation Vijay. Indian soldiers stood firm even in the bone-chilling cold of the mountains and this operation continued from May 1999 to July 1999 and in these three months of fighting, about 490 military officers and soldiers of our country were martyred. After a 3-month long fight and losing many soldiers, on 26 July 1999, the Indian Army succeeded in driving away the Pakistani army and terrorists. In this way Operation Vijay was successful and the tricolor was hoisted on the peak of Kargil.
