IPL 2023: Mark Wood attributes the fiery run against the Delhi Capitals to KL Rahul and Morne Morkel.

Mark Wood, a pacer from England, started his Indian Premier League 2023 campaign against Delhi Capitals with a match-winning spell of 5/14. Even though he struggled to land during his bowling stride in the early stages of the game, Wood ripped through the Delhi top order with pure pace. This was the pitcher's only appearance in the Indian Premier League since suffering an elbow injury in the 2022 season.

After the game, Wood said that KL Rahul and Morne Morkel kept things pretty easy for him in the LSG camp, and he credited them for his success against David Warner's Delhi Capitals.

“The planning I did with Morne helped me, and KL (Rahul) tried to keep things simple for me. Wood stated after the game, "Just try to do the same for England as he has been really good with me."

I played for CSK the last time I was here, and things didn't go as planned. So I needed to attempt to have an effect this time, and I'm happy that today's worked out positively," Wood said with content in his voice.

The pacer acknowledged the challenges he encountered while bowling and expressed relief at having bowled in time on April 1.

I actually felt good for a brief period of time. I was affected by the dew on the grass that you could see. Even when I'm at my best, I fall. Mark Wood concluded, "I’m just pleased that I was able to get some rhythm in and take some wickets today."

Wood's 147 kmph thunderclap outwitted both Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Bog, who were in extraordinary structure coming into the competition. Wood is expected to be one of the Lucknow Super Giants' most important players this season if he stays healthy.
