Thailand, Myanmar earthquake: Bridge collapses in Myanmar, According to Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention, the earthquake was felt practically everywhere in the nation. Approximately 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Monywa, in central Myanmar, was the epicentre of the earthquake.

Myanmar was struck on Friday by two strong earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.4.  The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, was able to feel the tremors due to their intensity.

Southeast Asia experienced two strong earthquakes on Friday, March 28, which caused buildings in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to tremble and forced evacuations throughout the city and neighbouring Myanmar.  According to initial reports from the US Geological Survey and Germany's GFZ Centre for Geosciences, the midday temblor was a shallow 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) with an epicentre in Myanmar.  Twelve minutes later, the region was rocked by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4. 

Bangkok's skyscraper rooftop pools sloshed over the side as they trembled, and numerous buildings dropped debris.  A video of an apartment block under construction collapsing was shared on social media shortly after the earthquake, but its veracity could not be immediately confirmed.  Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra called an emergency meeting to evaluate the earthquake's effects, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Residents of central Bangkok, which is heavily populated, poured out of hotels and high-rise condominiums in shock.

A number of buildings were evacuated following the powerful earthquake because they swayed during the infrequent tremor.

The famous Mahanakorn building in Bangkok was seen trembling on camera during Friday's earthquake.

Mandalay University in Myanmar was reported to have experienced fire, significant damage, and casualties.

Bangkok's BTS Skytrain was observed trembling violently during the earthquake.  Now, all BTS stations are closed for the time being.

According to preliminary reports, the midday earthquake was a shallow 10 kilometres with an epicentre in neighbouring Myanmar, according to Germany's GFZ centre for geosciences.

Reports of casualties or damage were not immediately available.

HIGH-RISE COLLAPSES IN BANGKOK, METRO HALTED

businesses closed for the day and a number of buildings in Bangkok were evacuated.  The Thai capital did not immediately report any casualties, though.

 Bangkok was placed under lockdown when the government shut down the subways, airport, and metro services.  Additionally, all trading activity was suspended by the Thai Stock Exchange.

An individual from Chiang Mai, Thailand, told AFP, "I was sleeping in the house, and then I ran as far as I could out of the building in my pyjamas."

Videos of buildings and shopping centres trembling violently and people fleeing into the streets in fear were shown in the terrifying footage that flooded X.

Water splashing over a skyscraper's edge from an infinity pool was captured in another video.  Another depicted the complete collapse of a high-rise that was still under construction, leaving behind a huge smoke plume.

MYANMAR PRONE TO QUAKES

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes are rather common in Myanmar, which is located close to the Sagaing Fault, which runs through the middle of the country from north to south.

Three people were killed and numerous others were injured in 2016 when a strong 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Bagan in central Myanmar.  The medical system of the country, which borders India and is currently engaged in a civil war, is under stress.
