INTRO
- "Kalki 2898 AD" concluded its 25-day run in theaters.
- The producers, Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas, have received a legal notice.
- The movie is among the highest-grossing productions of 2024.
"Kalki 2898 AD," starring Prabhas and directed by Nag Ashwin, became involved in legal issues when a notification was sent to the cast and producers of the movie, including Amitabh Bachchan. Acharya Pramod, a former Congress politician, claimed that the movie offended Hindus' religious feelings. He claimed that the movie defied what the Bible says, according to news agency ANI.
"India is a land of passion, devotion, and feelings. Santana Dharma's values shouldn't be compromised. Sanatana scriptures should not be changed. Our belief system is centered on Lord Kalki Narayan. According to Acharya Pramod, he is regarded as Lord Vishnu's last incarnation.
He continued, "Much is written about the incarnation of Kalki in the Puranas, and based on this, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Shri Kalki Dham on February 19."
"This film goes against what is described in our scriptures," he continued. Our religious feelings are being damaged by the movie. As a result, we have taken note of various objections and are awaiting an answer. Filmmakers have taken to toying with the emotions of Hindus. Demons are shown as saints. The right to free speech does not grant you the right to mock our religion.
The Supreme Court of India advocate, Ujjawal Anand Sharma, is the one who sent Acharya Pramod's legal notice.
Here's the trailer:
The letter continued, "Your movie has changed the basic concept about Lord Kalki from what has been written and explained in Hindu puranic scriptures and, for the said reasons, the portrayal and depiction of the story of Lord Kalki is wholly inaccurate and also blatantly disrespectful to these sacred texts, which are central to the religious beliefs and practices of a vast number of devotees, numbering in the hundreds of crores."
"Such a depiction has already led to confusion and further has the propensity to irretrievably tarnish the mythology and ethos of Lord Kalki in the hearts and minds of devout Hindus, which will lead to misinterpretation and subsequent erosion of the Hindu faith, thereby causing extreme distress to the faith and religious sentiments of our client and, needless to say, of the wider Hindu community at large," the notice continued.
Nag Ashwin is the writer and director of the sci-fi action adventure film "Kalki 2898 AD." Indian mythology and science fiction are combined in this massively budgeted movie. In the key roles are Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan; in the supporting parts are Shobhana, Pasupathy, Saswata Chatterjee, Anna Ben, Disha Patani, and Brahmanandam.
"Kalki 2898 AD" is being produced by Vyjayanthi Movies with an enormous expenditure of Rs 600 crore.
