The machine will tell your mood!
Japanese scientists have created an electronic device that will know how you are feeling without a camera. This digital device will work only after coming in contact with your skin.
This device will also be able to sense your mood and provide services accordingly. Just like a person who knows you closely does. It sounds a little strange, but it is true. This has been made possible by a recent research at Tokyo Metropolitan University in Japan. Where researchers used skin conductivity to understand emotions and found a clear difference in it during different events. That is, our skin had a different reaction to every event, which can be easily measured. In this way, electronic devices can easily tell what you are feeling.
I am feeling it.
How will it work Professor Shogo Okamoto, who was involved in the research, explains that 'when people feel different things, the electrical properties of their skin change significantly due to sweat. Signals start appearing within one to three seconds of the original stimulus.' In the recent research, the team focused on the dynamics of the response i.e. how quickly the conductivity trace reaches a peak after a stimulus and how it returns to normal. By analyzing such data, they found that different emotional states can be identified from it. However, accurate identification is still awaited. They are working on this. They are very close to making such a device.
Study standards
To test the dynamics of skin conductance, the researchers selected three types of emotions - fear, family bonding and humor. The people involved in the research were shown these three types of videos and based on this, the dynamics of their skin conductance response was assessed. On comparing the results, the researchers found that the dynamics of skin conductance response is affected by emotions. The response generated due to fear decreased gradually as compared to the response generated due to family bonding. Similarly, the responses related to family bonding increased gradually as compared to the response related to humor. This clearly shows that the dynamics of skin conductance are influenced by emotions. But human emotions can be read and mood can be detected accordingly.
Dependence on face and camera
Till now, facial expressions are read to understand human emotions accurately. Cameras are used for this, but the new technology will be completely camera-free. In this, only skin motility will be measured, which can be done by any digital device like a health band or smart watch. Facial data may not always be available. Scientists have been working on such an option for a long time. Currently, brain wave cardiogram is also us
