President Draupadi Murmu honoured former Indian cricket team spinner R Ashwin with the Padma Shri award. Apart from Ashwin, PR Sreejesh was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

Former Indian cricket team spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been awarded the Padma Shri Award. Ashwin was given the Padma Shri Award by President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Ashwin has been awarded this award for his outstanding contribution to cricket. Apart from Ashwin, former Indian hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award.

Let us tell you, on the eve of the 76th Republic Day on January 25 this year, a total of 139 eminent personalities were nominated for the country's civilian awards - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Out of these, 71 were given these awards on April 28 in the grand Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others. The rest will be given awards later in a separate ceremony.

BCCI congratulated

BCCI released a video on social media congratulating Ashwin on receiving the Padma Shri award. In the video, Ashwin can be seen receiving the award from the President. BCCI wrote on the x- Congratulations to R Ashwin on being awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Honorable President of India. This is an honor for his remarkable achievements and a wonderful career with Team India.

  

It is worth noting that R Ashwin said goodbye to international cricket during the Indian team's tour of Australia in December last year. Ashwin announced his retirement as soon as the Gabba Test ended during the Australia tour. Ashwin took a total of 765 wickets in international cricket. He served the Indian cricket team for about 14 years.

He took 537 Test wickets, 156 ODI wickets and 72 T20I wickets in his career. He was part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He ended his international career as the second highest wicket-taker in all formats for India after Anil Kumble.
