Google employee is dismissed just weeks after giving birth, and she is sad.
After more than a decade at the firm, a Google employee was unexpectedly let go. She said in a LinkedIn post that she was on maternity leave with a 10-week-old kid when she learned of her layoff.
Several female employees have already revealed their experience of being laid off while on maternity leave. In March of this year, numerous ex-Google workers banded together and addressed an open letter to CEO Sundar Pichai, asking a better management of the layoffs problem as well as respect for scheduled breaks such as maternity, bereavement, and so on.
However, the corporation continues to lay off individuals on leave, and in the most recent round, a mother was laid off just 10 weeks after giving birth to her child. The woman has been a Google employee for over 12 years and commented on LinkedIn that she is 'heartbroken and distraught' to learn of the situation.
Google employee loses job on maternity leave
"After 12.5 years at Google, I unfortunately was impacted while on maternity leave by the Google recruiting layoffs that occurred last Wednesday," the lady wrote of her layoff. To say the least, I am saddened and distraught, especially because I am on leave with a 10-week-old. I will, however, be eternally thankful for my time at Google and the incredible individuals I was privileged to work with, whom I now consider friends and, more importantly, family."
The woman then commented that she is currently struggling to figure out how to obtain a new job and attend interviews. Keeping a good attitude, she said that she is 'eager' to see what happens next.
"I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what's next or how I'm going to interview and work elsewhere right now, but I know things will work out, and I'm excited to see what comes next." Please keep me in mind if you come across any Staffing Manager or Programme Manager positions in any business. Even if there isn't a job available right now, I'd like to interact with anybody. The more connections you have, the better. Also, if anyone is searching for IC recruiters in any industry, please contact me. "My team was heavily impacted, and they are incredible recruiters," she writes on LinkedIn.
About Google layoffs
Google cut off hundreds of employees from its recruitment unit earlier this month. Alphabet, the parent company of the internet behemoth, announced the decision to remove personnel from its worldwide recruitment division. The corporation also stated that the move to fire "a few hundred" employees was not "part of a larger layoff." Alphabet also stated that it will "retain a significant majority of the team for key role hiring." In addition, the business indicated that it will assist impacted staff in finding new jobs "within the company and elsewhere."
Prior to firing off HR personnel, Google declared its intention to lay off 12,000 employees in January of this year. Google sacked employees from its Waze mapping app section a few months later when it began merging the programme into Google Maps products. Google's Geo section is led by Chris Philips, who notified staff of the layoffs through email.
