A woman lost Rs 12 lakh due to a fake job offer scam.

A TOI report states that in September, the victim, Malla Jyothirmayi, received a payment of Rs 15 lakh from her father in her bank account. WhatsApp was used to transmit the funds. The recent graduate in IT was eager to start working when she received an offer for a part-time position at an IT company. The recruiting procedures required her to pay a registration fee of Rs 5,000. The crooks then sent her texts requesting additional funds so they could examine her bank account.

After that, she was told by the con artists that if she paid 1 lakh as a caution deposit, she would receive Rs 1.4 lakh in three months. Jyothirmayi fell into their trap, sending the con artists a total of Rs 12.84 lakh in just a few hours. The woman sensed something wasn't right when the con artists demanded that she send an additional Rs 4 lakh. She filed a report at the Anakapalli town police station and her brother warned her not to transfer the fraudsters any more money after she told him about the experience.

This article provides tips on how to protect oneself from scams.

People can avoid falling for these kinds of fraud by remembering a few things.

First of all, it's advisable to apply for part-time work via reliable job portals like Indeed, Naukri.com, LinkedIn, and so on. If you must apply for jobs through other channels, be sure the individual extending the offer is authentic by conducting a thorough background check on them. Get information from them such as their name, company name, etc.

Sometimes all it takes to find out if the company offering the job actually exists is a quick Google search. Additionally, carefully study any "job offer" documents that you get. Sentence irregularities and grammatical errors can indicate that the paper was not professionally written and is most likely fraudulent.

Next, fill out your personal information (name, phone number, etc.) with extreme caution, making sure to enter it on reputable websites only.

Lastly, never give your banking credentials to strangers, and never deposit money into their bank account. Reputable businesses will never request payment of any type in order to hire you.
