INTRO

  • UP Warriors are defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs.
  • 'Smriti Mandhana' excels with a fantastic 80-run strike
  • In the league table, 'RCB' is currently ranked third.

'Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)' defeated 'UP Warriorz' in their rematch by a margin of 23 runs, capping off a brilliant home leg. After winning their opening match by a razor-thin margin of two runs, RCB demonstrated significantly greater batting power on Monday, March 4.

RCB's outstanding players of the day were 'Smriti Mandhana' and 'Ellyse Perry', who combined for an amazing 95 runs in the opening inning. 'RCB' bowled brilliantly and held off 'Healy's opening attack to win the game, setting a target of 199 runs against her team.

Strong Start from Warriors

In their record chase of 199 runs, 'UP Warriorz' got off to a strong start and maintained the run rate throughout the powerplay overs. 'Captain Alyssa Healy' looked ominous after giving up a maiden over to 'Renuka Singh', as she quickly put together a 47-run partnership with Kiran Navgire for the first wicket.

Navgire performed admirably, scoring 18 off of 11 balls before being bowled out in the second ball of the fifth over. The stage was set for Chamari Athapaththu, one of women's cricket's most aggressive batters, to establish her value. After hitting two boundaries to begin her innings, Georgia Wareham trapped the 'Sri Lankan player' in front of the wicket.

DRS Controversy

This was the turning point in the game. After the ball turned into Athapaththu and struck her on the leg stump, the umpire ruled that she was not out. RCB appeared assured in their call and reviewed it right away.

The 'DRS' indicated that the ball was hitting the stumps and was a googly rather than a leg spinner. 'Athapaththu and Healy' became enraged over this, and the 'Australian was heard yelling' "No Way, No Way" into the camera at full volume.

Following this occurrence in the seventh over, 'UP lost wickets quickly' afterward and 'lost the match' with a 'final score of 23 runs'. Had it not been for Deepti Sharma's comeback effort (33 off 22), UP would never have reached their total of 178 runs.

Among the bowlers, Asha Sobhana (2/29) was the most effective, taking two wickets in the match. Georgia Wareham and Sophie Devine both claimed two wickets that day, although they cost the team 37 runs apiece.

RCB's Assault

Royal Challengers Bangalore controlled the play for the entire first inning. In their last game at home, RCB had a different starting lineup. The hosts made the decision to demote Sophie Devine and elevate Sabbhineni Meghana.

The decision paid off, as the RCB openers got off to a fast start. After hitting several boundaries in the last over of the powerplay, Meghana finished with 28 off 21. After that, Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry launched a full-scale attack on the UP bowlers, amassing 95 runs off of just 64 balls. With a 59 off 38 balls, Mandhana was the more dominant player in the pair.

With 10 boundaries and 3 sixes in her 80-run innings, the left-hander produced some beautiful shots.

Ellyse Perry got 58 runs off of 37 balls, her first fifty of the season, alongside Mandhana. For the Warriorz, who were a tangle of lines and lengths, nothing happened as planned. For UP that day, Rajeshwari Gayakwad was the most costly bowler. Mandhana hammered the left-arm-off spinner across the park, conceding 43 runs in her 3 overs. The only bowler from the UP side to manage an economy under six was Sophie Ecclestone. In her four overs, she conceded twenty-two runs.

RCB Break Losing Streak

The victory was significant for the RCB team, which had dropped their previous two tournament matches. With six points from five games, the Mandhana team shot up to third place from fourth. The next game for RCB is against the Gujarat Giants in New Delhi on March 6.
