Over Italy, a sinister red ring appears to be an alien spacecraft.

On March 27, a baffling ring of red light that covered the skies and resembled a scene from a science fiction movie amazed people in parts of central Italy. The mysterious ring in the sky was captured by photographer Valter Binotto.

The image was taken by Binotto from Possagno, a small town in the Italian Alps' foothills. Astronomers estimated that the massive ring, which was visible over Central Italy, had a diameter of at least 360 kilometers and covered the region up to the Adriatic Sea.

"The distance must be in the range of 100 to 600 kilometers." "I have photographed them above the skies of Italy, France, Croatia, Austria, and Hungary up until this point," Binotto stated alongside the image in an Instagram post.

IS THAT A SPACESHIP?

No. Emissions of light and Very Low-Frequency Perturbations from Electromagnetic Pulse Sources produce the eerie halo. "Intense lightning in a storm near Ancona, about 285 km south of me, generated the ELVE," Binotto stated.

Large-scale electrical discharges that take place high above a thunderstorm cloud are characteristic of the rare Sprite species known as elves. Spaceweather.com claims that one of the lightning bolts was so powerful that it produced a powerful Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). The red ring indicates the location where the EMP struck the ionosphere of Earth.

A typical lightning bolt is said to carry 10-30 kiloamperes of current, according to experts. Ten times stronger than average was this bolt.

"Since I discovered them, I have been taking pictures of these events. My first encounter with a TLE, particularly with sprites, occurred in 2017. Binotto continued, "I have tried it ever since when the right conditions exist or when a strong storm develops at a suitable distance and the sky above me is clear of clouds."
