Speaking ahead of the toss, Manjrekar said that the athletes always get excited when the Prime Minister is present.
"The game will be watched by Honorable Prime Minister Modi. He won't just be there for the start of the game; he will stay for the entire game. They will undoubtedly be slightly more motivated if India bats first. I've been in similar situations, such as these Test match atmospheres, where people will subconsciously know that someone special is watching the game. Also, I'm certain that, that will fire them up," Manjrekar said.
He went on to say, "I have no doubt that that will play at least some part in how the match starts."
Matthew Hayden, who was with Manjrekar during the pre-match show, said that the beauty of the World Test Championship format is that the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match has consequences despite keeping the series. According to Hayden, the tournament was created specifically for this purpose, and nothing could be more exciting.
Before the game, the Prime Ministers of the two nations met with the players on each team and sang the national anthem.
