Following his disqualification as an MP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi received a notice to vacate his official bungalow in New Delhi. He must leave his official bungalow within a month of receiving the disqualification order, as stipulated by the rules.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to leave his official bungalow in Lutyens' Delhi by April 22 after being disqualified as an MP. On Monday, the Lok Sabha Housing Committee instructed Rahul Gandhi to vacate the government-provided bungalow.
Following his election as a member of the Lok Sabha in 2004, Rahul Gandhi was given the bungalow on 12, Tughlaq Lane.
After he was given a two-year prison sentence by a Surat court in a criminal defamation case in 2019, the Lok Sabha Secretariat made him ineligible to serve as an MP, which took effect on March 23.
The court released the former Congress president on immediate bail and gave him 30 days to file an appeal with a higher court. However, Rahul Gandhi wouldn't have the option to challenge races for quite a long time except if a higher court remains his conviction and sentence.
He must leave his official bungalow within a month of receiving the disqualification order, as stipulated by the rules.
In the meantime, Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad office appears deserted. The office of the former MP in Kalpetta town has ceased all operations. Since Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP, the office does not accept public requests or complaints.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress, was forced to leave her official Lodhi Estate bungalow in July 2020 because her security cover was reduced and she was no longer eligible for it.
The Congress party has stated that it will legally and politically oppose Rahul Gandhi's conviction and disqualification.
