In the 50-over format, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian player to reach 300 sixes. During Saturday's India-Pakistan game at Narendra Modi Stadium, the Indian captain achieved this significant milestone. Following the Afghanistan encounter, the star hitter began scorching the bowlers with his boundaries, and his innings in the Pakistan match had been no different.

Sharma was at 46 off 31 balls at the time this piece was published, with three boundaries and four sixes. He recently overtook Chris Gayle with 554 maximums in the Afghanistan encounter to take the record for most sixes in international cricket.

In his historic 81-ball 131 against Afghanistan at the Ferozshah Kotla, Rohit smashed five sixes to surpass the West Indian left-hander with 556 maximums in three formats.

It took Rohit 453 games to reach the milestone, which is exactly 30 fewer games than Gayle. "The universe is the boss. I have learned from his example. We've watched him throughout the years; he's a six-hitting machine wherever he plays.

"We both wear the same No. 45 jersey. In a video released by the BCCI, Rohit stated, "I'm sure he's happy about it because jersey No. 45 has done it (breaking his record)." Over the years, Rohit has claimed that he has put a lot of effort into honing his six-hitting abilities.

"I never imagined that I would be able to hit sixes, much less that many sixes, when I first started playing this game. It is evident that a great deal of effort has been invested in it over time. I am therefore quite pleased with the work I have completed.

"I am the kind of person who wants to keep doing what I am doing because I am not pleased with what he has been doing. That's what I'm concentrating on. Yes, it is a brief but joyful time for me," the right-handed opener remarked.

The 36-year-old gave his bowlers a pat on the back for keeping Afghanistan to a low score on a pitch that favoured hitters. "We concentrate on the little things, like examining the opposition we face. Afghanistan was the venue for today's game; therefore, we played well there because we were aware of the circumstances.

"I thought our game was excellent. The ground was excellent for batting on, and the bowlers did a fantastic job keeping Afghanistan to less than 280," Rohit remarked. The captain pleaded with the team to forget about the knockout stages and concentrate on the task at hand.

"The World Cup is now played in a completely revamped format, consisting of nine league games, semifinals, and the final. It was crucial for us to focus on each game that came our way rather than aiming too far ahead," he continued.
