Netflix "Starting 5," explained
"Starting 5" is an NBA spin-off based on the well-liked NFL programs "Quarterback" and "Receiver" on Netflix.
Following their favorite NBA players on social media provides fans with a brief glimpse into their off-court life, in addition to the action they watch on the floor.
The goal of "Starting 5" is to go even farther into the off-court and on-court facets of NBA players' lives.
A day-to-day look at the regular season will be shown, including the banter and chatter that goes on during games, but it will also highlight time with your family and what players can do to stay connected when they're not on the field or in the gym.
Netflix "Starting 5" cast
Lakers, LeBron James
Being in the spotlight is nothing new for LeBron, possibly the most famous player in NBA history.
Taking center stage on "Starting 5," the four-time champion, 20-time All-Star, and all-time leading scorer in the NBA will give fans an inside look at his game as a 39-year-old still competing at the top level in his 21st season.
Looking at the trailer, it seems that his wife Savannah, daughter Zhuri and sons Bronny and Bryce will also get some screen time.
Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves
It was entirely appropriate for Edwards to become the "face of the league" during his breakthrough campaign of the previous year.
The 23-year-old is one of the NBA's most entertaining players and a walking soundbite. He's a two-time All-Star who still has a lot of untapped potential, and he'll tell you about it too.
Edwards will become even more of a fan favorite when people get to know his personality in the "Starting 5."
Jayson Tatum, Celtics
Superstar Tatum, who is 26 years old, entered the NBA and immediately had an impression.
He is a five-time All-Star, has earned First Team All-NBA honors three consecutive seasons, and is on his way to becoming one of the league's best players.
Thanks to Tatum, fans will have an even better look at the Celtics' 2024 title campaign. Deuce, his six-year-old son, is also expected to be a big star.
Jimmy Butler, Heat
If Edwards has been crowned the NBA's "Most Entertaining Player," Butler has been crowned the league's "Most Interesting Player."
The star player for the Heat is a joker off the court but a ferocious competitor on it. With a reputation for stepping up in crunch situations, "Playoff Jimmy" is a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA player.
Arrive for his unwavering work ethic and trash talk, but stay for his absurd coffee addiction and strange side projects, like appearing in a music video for 'Fall Out Boy'.
Domantas Sabonis, Kings
The least well-known of the group is Sabonis, but the Kings standout has grown into one of the league's most talented big men.
Domantas Sabonis, a three-time All-Star who led the league in triples the previous season, is the son of former NBA player and legendary international basketball player Arvydas Sabonis.
The 28-year-old has spent the last eight years of his career moving about, playing a different role at each place he has called home, including Oklahoma City, Indiana, and Sacramento.
